Title: Location of Machines 2 Dev page
Post by: spazz on March 20, 2011, 03:56:21 pm
I think, this forum is a bad place for developing stuff.

Therefore, I made us a place on sourceforge.net (https://sourceforge.net/projects/machines2/).

Please register and join!

"GNU General Public License version 3.0 (GPLv3)"
Um... No? As far as I know the game isn't going to be entirely open source. It could be...
Was that your intention?

if you plan to use models similar to original one (like the one you actually did) it cannot be totally opensource. same if you plan to use sounds etc etc.

models, name (it cannot be called machines 2 btw) belong to Acclaim Games (its not old Acclaim), but most likely Throwback Entertainment. they bought 150+ games and their ip from Acclaim Games but Machines doesnt appear on any list :/

Right. He has a point. I forgot there still probably was an owner of machines stuff. The models should be fine, though, because they only resemble the original machines models. Anyway, I thought every file was going to be new. The title will also have to be something other than machines if it is officially licensed.

ye models should be ok. for example, i wouldnt even touch sc2 models, too scared of blizzard lawyers :D but in this case it shouldnt be any problem.

by the way, units shouldnt be called reaver or bee-bomber either. but reaper and b-bomber will be ok

btw2 Machines:Rebirth could be small abuse but still ok i think.

Working-title stays Machines2 then. If you join the sf-project, I should get an email to authorize you..

Or do you like github more?

I like the gpl v3 idea :D
And for those saying you can't use the name or model REMAKES, look at spring games. They somehow made them open source but half of them are based on total annihilation. Somehow.

GPLv3 --> like it.

I asked for quite some time disney about the turok-name, and they said, noone would have the rights of the name. (Disney bought it, or sth.) I guess noone wanted to have Machines for these times. I guess as long as noone makes money with this game (and with gplv3 we aren't) we will not get into trouble.

Sorry to inform you but, that project is no longer in operation. We are recreating machines but, it is not going to be a sequel. If you really want to be a part of this project, you could create models of the buildings since I am busy doing the units or help the others get the spring engine working smoothly. Ask Mahmoud and Machinesrocks for more information.
