it's a realy nice download client for machines
i thank you for it
but there is 1 tiny thing that bothers me
its when you type in your password you get to see your password and not in little dots or stars.
but for the rest everything is nice

Yes, I've noticed that too. I'll fix it in the next update.

Wonderfull, needs to be a bit more clunky for it to be really machines(more rust and wires xD) Can you also put in a small hidden button that you can click to continue without backing up? since I don't really like need it....(Since i'm no idiot when it comes to this ;))

ohoh! I want a upload button, that you can press, then you have to insert password, and then you can upload mods to the server :D
Would make my work so much easier ;)

Was this made in game maker!?  I think it was.  Nice job.  Very helpful and all, gets rid of all the bothersome work and makes it so easy even a grunt could do it...

There already is one... Look carefully. I think it's labeled "Back".

It can be done. Give me time...

Thanks, and yes, it was made in Game-Maker 5, and not six for several reasons.
1) Less CPU usage since it doesn't use DirectX
2) GM 5 can be worked with under Linux
3) GM 5 is more compatible with older PCs.
And you can still do just as much with it as you can with GM 6 :D

UPDATE - All of your clients should update automatically.

Changes:
-Passwords now show up as asterisks (*s)
-Bigger mod buttons allowing for actual names to be shown
-Larger mod description windows allowing for larger descriptions to be shown. They're also auto-wrapping.

Comments... suggestions.... ANYTHING?!
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 04, 2007, 08:08:37 pm
Hehe, here goes :P

You might have read it on my blog, but maybe you can add links or something to programs/files like,
Metaex.exe
Metaex Manual
Mach1.met.txt
Modding Manuals -> Which i'm going to polish up)
Hamachi
mIRC -> Java Applet?
Jeballi's Walkthrough(steal it but give credit :P)
And Maybe you can add Minigames(it is GAME-maker after all, pong will be nice xD :P)

For the Program:
Add a "Sound on/off" button
Create a better "Description" window(this one is kinda messy)
Repair the "Launch Machines" button(crashes with me, at the N)
Change "Loading screen" with something Machines-like
Change Program Icon (not that default GM icon)
Different Backgrounds
Change "Jouse Mod" to "Joust Mod"

Highly Optional
Add a Skirmish Manual(which i'm going to create: A picure of minimap with small description, through which you can scroll :P)
Add a "Scaled maps" download center(Which I'm scaling and giving to you, but maybe this can take too much space...)

Enough to keep you busy I hope :) Now let's see what the next person wants to add :P

Post by: Judas on January 11, 2007, 11:52:04 am
If they say it won't work that doesn't immediately mean that they are liars Sloik :P

How can it not work? Doesn't it download? Doesn't it start? You get a error? The Downloading goes slow? Details please!

BTW, Why does the "Download" button on the Main page lead to this site?
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Apex- on January 11, 2007, 07:45:59 pm
Because the downloads section doesn't work. This thing is pretty much all you need for downloads.
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 11, 2007, 08:05:29 pm
I don't see Kadirr's mod anywhere!! :P

And...those...other things that were there...uhm....things :D

Maybe the "XP-Patch" should get it's own place of honour instead of hanging with the mods(A patch isn't a mod right?)
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: 4Fippel4 on January 12, 2007, 09:47:45 am
Hello, it should be some information aboute the mods. It is just the mod and the name. It should be very nice to have information aboute the mod! For example:
XP patch
"Enable Machines to run on Windows XP if there some problems (in most cases)."
Some more information aboute it i think. Much info is best!

Cuz i don't know anything aboute the mods. What do you think?!

Who have made the Machines client and how old are the creator?
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 12, 2007, 10:19:02 am
Sloik and he's 15(right? or 14?)

And the newest version acctually has that description! When you click the mod you want to download you get a screenfull of Info and help :P

It's acctually so easy that you can use it even when you have absolutly NO knowledge of Machines :D
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Apex- on January 12, 2007, 09:08:32 pm
14. And yes. Try it before you make suggestions.

aha, hehe,
hmm, maybe have a little display under them with the information aboute it when i holding the mouse pointer over the mod! hehe, i dont know but maybe?!yes!
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 13, 2007, 07:34:27 pm
Why don't you just click the mod button?

You have something against clicking? :P
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: 4Fippel4 on January 15, 2007, 08:32:04 am
hehe, no, but we maybe can se the info when we holding the mouse pointer over it. We should see te information faster then i think. Dont you think  hehe??!
It just should be better then. Now it is good, and it can be better? cach it?! ehhee
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Strongbee on January 15, 2007, 09:51:12 am
Just one simple question - how do you find out about these items? Or did you actually create the client? But not only the client, I mean, other things, such as the game rights and such, where do you get the info? And please don't say 'the internet' because that will annoy me. Good on you all for taking the time to find out info on a near doomed game - if you didn't, all would be lost in a world of modern-day-virtual-graphical-realistic-multi-hyphenated games. Hats off to you, and hope for some form of reply,
Fang

@4Fippel4: You hehe too much :P Maybe in the next version(that one you showed me Sloik, that's going to be the next right?) it could work. But currently it won't because the description would block the other buttons, so there won't be a way out of the description menu :)

@Strongbee
4Fippel4:

Who have made the Machines client
Judas:
Quote
Sloik

He created it with Gamemaker, he's a pro at that kind of stuff, he also created a few fun games with it :D
The game rights? We just "took" it(Finders, keepers) since the original Acclaim is gone, thus leaving all the games not yet bought by companies in a void. And because we are the ONLY website on the internet about Machines(except those Gamespot etc sites) We thought we had the right to continue to distribute this game to the fans :) Also Jeballi, somebody who worked at Charibdis(Created Machines) gave us some inside knowledge about how the modding is done, This client wouldn't exist without him  (he hasn't been online for some time, but the time he was, was invaluable :D)

So:
Sloik: Client Creator
Judas(me): Currently the only "serious" Modder, I'm the only one(besides Sloik) that has access to the "Mod Server" allowing me to upload mods at will(which then appear in the client)
Jeballi: Charibdis Master-overlord Uber Person :P

Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 18, 2007, 01:55:36 pm
Nah the download section didn't work so we just send you here :P

But if you need the patch download the client and then, with the client, download the patch

The client is going to have more downloads in the future I hope(other than mods) :)
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!

other things!?
wow!! have two different machines demo then!
one with the echo pod-madame-sound on (that what i have) and one demo with the non-echo sounds what is on the full game.
But can somone link me to a site where i can download one of the demos please!
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!
Post by: Judas on January 19, 2007, 08:13:06 pm
Demo:
These two are in the Demo:
Male Voice (Does the "Well done, to the east are more bases" "Mine detonation in 60 seconds" etc)
Woman Voice No-Echo (Does the "Under Attack" "Low on Minerals" etc)

And both are crap :P difficult to hear, "Low of mnral" or "Low on minerals" (it was called minerals before they changed it into BMU's)

Full-game
Woman Voice No-echo

And please stop calling it echo pod-madame-sound, it's very confusing. Just call it Woman/man Voice, since there is only one Woman/Man voice in the whole game, the rest is robot :P

Why are you so eager to get the Demo's? They're only....demo's :P

"I think there are quite a lot for one person to create"

Not bragging or anything, but still, I'm the only moron who acctually created these mods :P (98% of them anyway, the other 5% are Sloik's mods)

And yes, that is 103%, shut up

Launch what? Machines from the client? Or just the client itself?

Here are some possibilities:

1. You are not connected to the internet.
2. You typed in the wrong username and/or password.
3. You did not put it in the Machines directory.

What I mean is that there is no way to skip the update. I have already tried downloading it a second time but the end result was the same. The message speaks as if there is a way to skip this dumb update. If so, how?

OK - Do you have a firewall?

If not... than I'm going to have to say it's Windows Vista.

You can get the update manually here. (http://wiredforwar.org/downloads/mods/currentversion.7z)

It's actually not Windows Vista. It's a skin using WindowBlinds. And I do have a firewall. So I'll just manually grab the update.

:clint: Help! I downloaded Machines_Disc_1 and Machines_disc_2.iso. Got 7Zip, and Acohol120%.. Burnt the Iso to CD, and that kind of went okay, I think. Unzipped the  Machines_Disc_1 to a folder and ran setup. I got this message: C:\Program Files\Acclaim Entertainment\ Machines\machines.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I hit OK on this and next it was "Unable to run this command. Does it have to be run in 16bit mode? What do you think is going on. Should I download disk 1 again? Running Win2K SP4
Thanks for any help you can offer...

:clint:Thanks Deliverance... I did just that and it looked like it wanted to start and was starting, but wanted Disk 2. I finally figured out how to just "Mount" that with the Alcohol120%, and then Machines was able to run. Felt like I was getting somewhere, then those flying things came and ...Well, it was like an Atomic Bomb went off." Wiped out half my double barreled Plasma Reapers. w0w! that was just crazy. But the computer ALWAYS has crusaders and wasps when I vs it and they kick some ass, especially when I still have a lot of reapers left from earlier in the game.

Hey, I'm having trouble with it, I've got it in my Machines Directory and all, looks like Alexlazer66's screenshot. But everytime I start it up it says there is an
"ERROR in action number 1 of key release event for <no key> Key for object obj_abortbutton:
error defining an external function."
Then there's an abort and ignore button.

after that there are two more errors, one about no existing file and the other about an unknown variable "currentversion".
then comes the login page, after i press "login", 3 more errors pop up in this order...
error defining an external function(again)
no existing file(again)
and a very large error with alot of stuff in it that covers alot of space, but it is all about an error in a left click for object obj_loginbut.

Sorry, I know it's a bit lengthy of a post, but I want to be a little more specific than "help it won't work!"
some other people have also had this problem too, so I hope you guys have figured it out now. I'm just hoping it's just me doing something stupid and wrong! And yes, I did try re-installing. Help!

The dlls aren't present. Make sure you have downloadfile.dll (I think that's what it's called) in the same directory as the client EXE (as well as any other DLL files that came with it).

Now it asks me to update and all, I press update and... the words overlap as the new screen comes, and it's hard to tell but it looks like under status it says "stopped/error"

When you say above posts, do you mean download the file manually?
I've tried doing that, but the client still asks me to update and has the same result.
Is that link an outdated version or do I need to put the download in a different spot?
(It's currently in the Machines Program files directory with the client.)

First of all, to get the :clint: to show up you need a space after the final :.

Second of all, you need to build a Beacon in order to view the minimap and see your units - there should be a BMU count regardless, but on some screen resolutions the very top and bottom of the screen are chopped off, and it's probably chopping off the BMU count on your screen.

Hope it helps

i have 2 sugestions:
1.  a TRAINER download and load function
and
2.  a BETTER ICON like the machines logo and i know its possible since
i have the gamemaker (registrated 6.1) and i create my own icons for my games
its really easy to create icons.

PS: did you know the creator of GM(mark overmars)is a dutch guy like me and judas :-o

Yeah, an icon would be a mucho improvemento.

If I find my old GM install files, you could send me the source and I'd fix it up myself.

I don't think the trainer would work, though, or at the least it would require new coding - it doesn't work the same as installing a patch does, and has to be run seperately from machines.exe.

Is that supposed to make the Dutch awesome or something?

I'm not dumb, I can do it.

I don't think the trainer would work, though, or at the least it would require new coding - it doesn't work the same as installing a patch does, and has to be run seperately from machines.exe.
It wouldn't be hard... just start it along with the game.

Isn't adding an icon like.

"Global Options > Add Icon"?

Why not edit MAC so that when you press F1 (That's the hot key for the trainer) that Machines gets switched off, or that it constantly types "Cheater" in the Machines chat box?

Har de har harr i didn't know you had to goto mods and download the patch, but that was why it didn't work. I forgot to edit my post though.

Edit: I have a little question... What's the ''Regular Machines'' mod?
Title: Re: New!!! - Wired For War Machines Client!

irregular Machines Mod? I think that's the one that screws up textures, gives guys lots of super guns, causes them to have the shits, etc. So what do you think the REGULAR Machines Mod is?

Postscript: Sloik, it should be original machines or remove mods. Regular doesn't work there.

the machines directory is where you installed Machines...
for example C:\Program Files\Acclaim\Machines

youll find it!

or you right click on the machines shortcut on the desk and click "Find Target" after that you copy the client in this folder...

Nice work with the Client, Sloik :-)

Next time, you could maybe include more details in the information screen, like the size of the mod, when it was made,...

For those who have error-messages, (java-script errors, see screenie), I can perhaps be of any help, since I've had an error myself...

First, create a map 'WFW Client(or w/e)' in your Machines directory and place the Client there(I downloaded the Client manually, because otherwise it didn't work properly).
Second, start up the Client(put the settings of your FireWall in 'exeption' if not done so yet. Input your login-data from here on the forum.

Then you can go and download any mods/maps you like. Note that they are downloaded to the directory of your Client map, but I'll explain about this later. After downloading, don't select 'Start Machines' from the Client. I had a Memory Error this way. Copy and paste the downloaded files to your Machines main directory(backup if needed) and start Machines manually. This should make all mods go perfectly, if you were struggling with an error message like my screenie.

If your download speed is 0 kb/s , it's probably because you're on low bandwith, the same I'm experiencing right now xD

For the stopped/error issue, can't help you here... Make sure you've put the Client in your FireWall as an exeption or just shut it down. Don't know any other solution...

Did you see that? I just became a Bee! :smilydude:

... What exactly do you mean...? Maybe the answer is in my previous post :-)

Also, great modding-stuff on that 'Overrun' mod. It really trains my defensive strategy... thing... In the beginning, I manage pretty fine by spawning Wraith Reapers and Assassin Warlords all the time(+ a few Goliaths and Crusaders), but then, the innevitable moment comes... I run outta BMU's... For fun, I command my builders to escape via the down side tunnel, while the enemy forces oppose and crush mines... Then they come in and destroy my buildings, and then they come after my builders... I first-person one, while my buddies get destroyed(they have to define and calculate their paths in corners 'n stuff...) I keep on going with a bunch of Blue Icons right behind me on my radar, then I enter a big clearing, with nothing there... Think I'm save for a while, take a deep breath in and out and... Suddenly a whole group of Blue Icons spawn right next to me... I exit my Builder(no chance for me stay alive, off course) and see, like, 4 Gorilla's, a few Bee Bombers and some Warlords... DEFEAT... Anyone thinks I should sacrifise some BMU's researching a Gorilla myself?

That error you're experiencing is probably due to Vista's new UAC.

It shouldn't be necessary to perform all of those things to get the client to work.

Vista?

Seriously, I don't want every single one of my drivers polling 3 times a second - just on the off-chance I might be copying protected content.

Nor do I want my memory to be slowed down with on-the-fly encryption/decryption - but only for protected content, while my credit card information is completely unprotected.

More importantly, I want to actually be able to play High-Definition content, instead of shelling out for a new graphics card, disk drive and monitor.

Seriously.

I don't understand why it does that. I think it's client side, since it works perfectly for me.

It uses a simple HTTP connection, so either you don't have the DLL in the folder of the program, or you've got something blocking the client's access to the net.

When I start it, it wants to get updated...so i press the Button...but it just doesnt start to download anything...
How can I fix that? Is it possible to get the latest Version which then doesn't need an Update?

The 'Joust Mod' file is incomplete. The mach1.met file is only 2.4 MB big(default mach1.met is 3.1 MB) and lets Machines crash when selecting a unit. I hope you still have a backup of the file, I would really appreciate that.

It is a download client, not for multiplayer use. To find other online Machines gamers who are willing to play, check the Multiplayer topic.

Sloik hosts the files that can be downloaded with the WiredforWar client.

By the way, I never heard of a person 'who is server'...

I'm having problems with the music files. When I play Machines I get no music at all, just the sound. Is there a way to fix that?

It's well known problem, unfortunately... If You want to hear the music you need the original CDs or even the 2nd disc :|

But, one of the members on this forum has written:
(...)Alcohol120% CD2 Iamge + DaemonTools v.3.47 (last version that supports Analog Audio - need to play the Music on CD2 ^^)

Maybe try this ? :P
