I would be happy to do some modeling, and make some banners and/or wallpapers.

Surely there is a better drawer than me to do concept art :/ I suck

I love how you use incorrect grammar for 'Spellings Checker', the irony is so ironic you could iron it, or something

you want me to do the Concept art? Exactly :P

Now if you could keep doing the concept art untill somebody better actually comes along, you are the best we have(IMO)

Hanson, could you maybe show some banners/wallpapers or 3Dmodels? Just create something you come up with :)

I'll do Rules and Concept Art.

I have lots of experience with balancing abilities etc. (I've "fixed" a lot of cards on the WOTC boards), and can do some pretty good concept sketches. I can also do one characters voice if needed, though if I'm not needed I'd rather not have to.

Can you send me or post one of your concept sketches of anything, machines-related or not. Just wanna see how good you are so I can palm off my concept sketch workload off to you... :P j/k, but yeah I'd like to see either way.

I'll upload it once I figure out how to get this blasted scanner working again  :argh:

Expect it in the next few days.

"Hey, Jabor posted this."

That's the idea. On this board in particular it's especially useful, as your eye is drawn more to the persons title-picture (which is not unique) instead of the avatar to work out who they are, thus you can't tell at a glance who posted a particular post. The symbol provides a way around that.

I've been busy lately, but I finally got to making a banner!  I am not sure exactly what you want, but how's this?  You might want to scale it down to about 66%

I suppose I could do rules...
I like balancing things out, plus I've played a whole lot of RTS games and thus have seen alot of different ways to do it.
Personally I just think my skills are better suited in that area.
But I am trying to learn how to model too, so don't fill up that graphics spot...save me a seat!

Yeah I think I'd also like to play a minor part in the rules/balancing section. Not so much making the rules as checking over them and refining others ideas ^^ More people need to submit stuff in fan art so you prove you can draw better than me so I don't have to draw nasty vehicles and machines and humans which I suck at :(

Head of flavour - pretty much tied in with storyline/settings isn't it? And would you have to follow what the combination of storyline and artwork dictates, or do you think you would dictate the storyline and artwork? ^^

I think I have done a decent amount of work on the flavour and atmosphere/character/etc. of the races, game, and setting, and so has 3DFreak, I think. ^^

Also - I am wondering how much power the leaders have - because we have been running on a basic premise of 'the group decides' right now, and leaders don't seem to fit that unless you just mean the leaders co-ordinate everyone, make sure they're on task, and the actual content of the work is up to the members.

Yeah I wouldn't mind being put in the Rules section but just a minor part to tweak ideas or add some minor ones as I'm fairly familiar with a few RTS and FPS games and how they work and why they worked well and it would just add some experience and knowledge of games that others may have not played. I am thinking if there are only 1 or 2 people in that section the rules will end up being like their favourite RTS or FPS game :P Having too many different backgrounds might cause some arguments and slow progress though :P

The way I see it, head of [foo] has pretty much the final call on any contentious issues related to [foo], dictates the general direction of [foo], and keeps everyone working on [foo] on-task and working.

Basically the group decides, but if it can't come to a decision the leader makes the call.

As head of flavour, I would dictate the general direction of storyline and artwork, make a final call on whether the Unknown should look like this or like that, set the boundaries for what can be done within the setting of the game and what is off-limits, etc.

Head of rules would pretty much balance things out, decide what abilities should be granted to units as well as which are too broken to put in and which are too weak to bother with, and oversee the playtesting and subsequent tweaking of individual unit stats to finally balance the game out.

Head of flavour?

And I don't think you can just call yourself leader unless more people agree

(http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8337/stuffvv6.th.png) (http://img295.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stuffvv6.png)
(20 Minutes Experience of Photoshop in my entire life remember :P)

Jabor, you're slightly wrong:
The Group + Leader figure out everything out together for the section they're in. So there's no hierarchy here.
The Leaders job is to make sure the group does what they have to do and, if people have to vote, and there's a 50/50 vote end-result then the leader has 2 votes instead of one. Everything that's finished the leader has to present to the Director.

So:
Quote
The way I see it, head of [foo] has pretty much the final call on any contentious issues related to [foo], dictates the general direction of [foo], and keeps everyone working on [foo] on-task and working.
No, No and Yes, The Director has the final call and he tells you what you should do. You have to make sure everything runs smooth and that everything in done before the given dead-line.
Quote
Basically the group decides, but if it can't come to a decision the leader makes the call.
Yes, if the group can't decide, then the leader has 2 votes instead of one.

Quote
As head of flavour, I would dictate the general direction of storyline and artwork, make a final call on whether the Unknown should look like this or like that, set the boundaries for what can be done within the setting of the game and what is off-limits, etc.
The director gives the general direction, you have to come out with something solid. The leader merely "guides" his team to results. The leader only makes a final call when the team+leader can't come to a conclusion. The team is perfectly in state to decide if a unit should look like "this" or "that'. You just make sure they decide before the dead-line.

Quote
Head of rules would pretty much balance things out, decide what abilities should be granted to units as well as which are too broken to put in and which are too weak to bother with, and oversee the play testing and subsequent tweaking of individual unit stats to finally balance the game out.
The Rules-team can do all that.

Hello

The project "Machines II" is started again.

I need one C++ programmer having following criterias:
- Strong in graphics programming.
- OpenGL and SDL knowledge.
- knowledge in shader programming for shader version 3 using GLSL

And of course:
- Not a beginner
- Able to receive instructions
- Having time and motivation and of course he must be a "machines" fan
Optionally:
- Some knowledge in AI, Pathfinding algorithms

I've prepared a task for him so we will start immediately.

Well. I've not introduced myself.

I've watched this project a year long and now I want to help out to get this project running.
The next thing I did is to contact "judas". He agreed to restart the project.
Calling me a head of development is not really right. I'm a programmer and I'm interested more in technical details of how to get sth. work. I'm not developing a game itself that's a difference.

If anybody has any problems with Razorjack they should contact me.

If anybody thinks it is funny to impede our progress by flaming or anything he should contact me, I'll make sure your life will be a living nightmare.

You'll see what we're doing in less than three months :D

In the meanwhile, people could make themselfs useful by finding some extra programmers, using Razorjack's list

Judas, just a warning. You remember when I made Daemien a mod out of the blue? Like I said, this is a community project, and not everybody is going to be happy if you make all of the decisions. Try to keep your status with recruiting public.

are you saying you're going to make me a mod? :D nothing there says you are, but miracles/accidents happen!

Judas, Jabor, 3DFreak and myself seem to be the only ones relatively active in any of the M2 topics that require thought right now (sorry if I missed someone), and I am sure we are happy for Judas to organise this, I know I am. Really, all it is is Judas getting names of people to help us - any of us can do it if we want, he just wants to allocate himself as an organiser of this as someone has to do it. Not like anyone else wants to do this job, and if they do then speak up - the fact no one has is reason enough for Judas to take some kind of control - as long as he doesn't want to be in charge of drawing the concepts :D

I don't see any problem with Judas rounding up people in that way.

In any case, it presents a more professional image if the person recruiting gives them a reply email instead of urging them to post on a message board. Regular progress reports would be appreciated, however.

When I noticed the words 'Machines 2 Development', I became very excited. I got ahead of myself. I apologize.

I'd like to sign up for Machines 2 development.

I can contribute ideas for both the background story, mission design and race design.
I have some solid mathematical abilities, so I can contribute to the gameplay development.
I also have access to recording equipment and software, so I can contribute to background sound and voice acting. I may be able to create some music, though I've never tried before.

I'd like to participate in the development.

Qualifications:
- I am currently taking Computing Technologies in university, learning multiple programing languages, algorithm optimisation, abstract data structures, etc, and will eventually start learning AI.
- I own 3D graphic software (Blender3D & CB Model Pro) I'm not very good at this yet, but am practicing.
- I can draw... or at least I could, its been awhile - we'll see about this one.
- I am interested in helping with the story line.

Hey guys. It's really good to see some Machines action. I was on the team that created the original game back in 2000. Seems such a long time ago!!
thought everybody would like to know that we actually did a whole load of work on a sequel to Machines (at that point, cleverly called, Machines2!)...

I remember there was LOADS of new concept art created for it. New machines and also new races. We were looking to split the 4 races into 4 specific machine types. If i remember rightly ,there was a steam punk type machine race (chimneys belching smoke, etc).. a biogenetic machine race, a slick machine race, based on the models from the first game, and another one i can't quite remember.

Now, i may have got some of the concepts from this design phase (it lasted a couple of months so there was quite a bit of work done on it).. Can't promise anything. If i still have anything on disk anywhere, it's going to be under piles and piles of rubbish and boxes, but i'll see what i can do...

Anyway, it's great to see that there are still fans of Machines out there.. It was a work of passion for 2 years with a very dedicated team.

Hi jamin,

welcome to our small community.
Your work looks awsome. :D

Unfortunately, we have no active coders here, so there is no real progress in this project.
Just ideas, ideas, ideas and ideas ;)

Awww too bad. I'll ask one of the programmers I know to see if he would be interested.. I doubt he would be tho so I'm not promising anything.

Bah, I think I could try but I'm a bit sceptic.

Sadly he wasn't interested. Seems he didn't get the chance to play machines.

if you would like to assist in machines2 development it would help greatly if you would not only post what you want to do but also provide some details on what your skills are. Simply saying "i want to do models" or " ohh can i do sketches" doesnt really make you look like a very capable person. Im not having a dig at anyone i just want people to know that you need to provide some information about how you could help. How would your inclusion in the team benefit the project? Just a few words saying what you can do would help you alot.
If you are enthusiastic about wanting to be apart of developing Machines2 but are unsure of how you could help / dont have any real skills in making anything to do with games or even if your abit rusty go to this topic here. http://forums.wiredforwar.org/index.php?topic=1690.0 (http://forums.wiredforwar.org/index.php?topic=1690.0) It contains a fairly large list of all the different aspects of game development along with a number of programs you can use for each step. Find something that interests you and learn up on it. I am doing this right now with modelling and anim as i havent done any for quite awhile and i am also now learning C++.

now go forth grasshopper! You know what to do now and how to do it, please do not post here unless you already know what your doing (or atleast a fair idea  )

Im not having a dig at anyone

like my post says, im not talking about any person specifically im just saying it would be useful if people stated how they could help as i noticed some people are not. I was only suggesting a sentence or two outlining what you wanted to do as opposed to a 5 word post which doesnt really do the poster any credit... As it seems most people are doing that anyway so im just gonna hit the coin return and take my 2 cents back i think

At least not until we get one dedicated programmer actually started on the job - He'll need initiative to get started because no one is gonna tell him to :).  Who knows if that'll ever happen though...
