Title: Machines Browsergame
Post by: naums on August 14, 2011, 06:24:47 pm
Hey there.

You are currently developing a remake of machines called machines 2. Because, as you guys already know, I can't really help you now, i got an idea, maybe a stupid one. I thought we could have a little browsergame with the content of machines. So you could build stuff and upgrade weapons and search for BMI-Mines, build building, let transporters go from mine to pod, etc. What do you think of my idea. Does anyone want to help me realizing a (little) Browsergame? (First: planning. I won't probably begin coding until December/January of 2012)

The only thing I would need for that is a Webserver.

Edit: you will propably think of something like "Die Siedler Online", but I meant something way more simplistic. For example like this: http://ogame.de/ [German] go to "Media" and the watch the "Screenshots"

One of our members wanted to do a browser base game but gave up. I wouldn't suggest making Machines into a browser based game too. Maybe just the demo skirmish into a browser based game.

That ain't exactly what I want. I don't wanna use flash or shit like that. Pure, simple PHP and HTML. Nothing with flash or whatever. (because I am not able to make flash-stuff with Linux ;)

<ogame addict> OF COURSE! It's a great idea! We could get people from ogame to play Machines and such...

this seems too difficult to do and would yield too little results.

I believe that one was me =P You want any background information/data, just ask me. Got more than enough things to help you out ;)
Also, technically, I haven't given up yet, I go look at my files every now and then and try another attempt at starting it (again).I just don't think my expertise is enough (yet) to take on something like that. Also, I'm involved with the Machines remake atm, although I wouldn't mind clearing some time to help you in this project.
Anyways, contact me if you'd like to get this thing started!

to difficult? if someone has a little time on their hands. (as i said: 2012). And maybe you can even get some money from that (advertisments and stuff). what are big results in you eyes?

]Do what you like pro  :-P

naums make a thandor remake :D
Title: Re: Machines Browsergame
Post by: naums on August 14, 2011, 07:18:11 pm
Thandor is a great game, but I've read that a game company does that already. ;) I don't know which. And the don't have the name-rights for that one

uhm... so I will plan stuff and get things clear and ready with VOTS. If I need something/someone (especially Designers and Translators [cause I can't translate to... lets say Spanish]) I will call you guys here ;)

That was part of our discussion way back.
I was thinking about an option (like oGamr)that involved actually paying (beyond the normal resources), you know, resources that are 'special') or other options that could boost you (like 'Super'status)... things like that.

Post by: The Merciful on August 14, 2011, 07:22:40 pm
Thandor is a fun game, I don't know why it did so poorly. Which game company? Jowood owns it, right? How do I play multiplayer in it?

Good luck

VOTS, what are you quaking about with Superstatuses?

Post by: naums on August 14, 2011, 07:25:58 pm
VOTS: I hate that idea. I just hate having to pay for a game, to win. That's ass. (please don't be censored) I can understand your thinking, but I hate that when playing free online games (like need for speed world, Die Siedler Online, Battlefield Play4Free,...)
Title: Re: Machines Browsergame
Post by: The Merciful on August 14, 2011, 07:27:37 pm
Because springs games are free, we will do better than a pay-per-win (?) version.

Post by: naums on August 14, 2011, 07:29:25 pm
anus, it is censored. No but I hate paying to win. We can talk about that later.

VOTS: I wrote you a message.

Not trying to be commercial or anything, but there are always 'idiots' to pay =P
Also, I'm at café right now, just so you know ;)

Well spring games are free and open source. There are still ways to get money from games like those without pay to wins or anything. This is supposed to be a completely free project though, maybe donations.

About still being ways to get money, something like an mmo with a master server can control content that players will buy.

Donations <3

Free is virtually nonexistent in the world but we can do something about it  :grunt:

MMO? Ain't exactly a 'downgrade' from a browsergame =P

That would take time and experience to create one.

If you're going to make a browser game and not use flash (thank you) then you'll want to use at least javascript (probably with canvas). Php is not meant for animated games, and will make it a much less fun experience. Of course, I'm not a master web developer, but I've never heard of a game in php/html that wasn't something like travian or tribal wars.
You probably aren't going to do this just for the money, so just leave ads on there, but later on if you can figure out a way to make money without slapping players in the face, then go for it.

He said he would begin work at 2012, why don't you wait until then, no reason to be talking about things that won't happen soon.

How can you propably get an MMO from Machines?

I don't want anything like a real game where you can move machines or something like that. Did anyone play ogame? I will use Javascript for sure, but not too much. Plain, Simple, Free.

I reserved a spot on http://wfwgamers.proboards.com/ to 'showcase' and store my progress. As you can see, it's still as good as empty =P Please register.

It might come in handy to have someone with (a bit of) experience regarding php (or, so you say). I'd like to see what this will bring.

I want some cookies too. Well, I like this forum better. ;) I can do PHP stuff. Well... for everyone who wants to be involved, giving us some (original) images from the (original) game, we'd appreciate it a lot. Or maybe some programmers, testers and the alike. As I already claimed, we don't need to get a hurry into there, because I will not be able to write code for the Browsergame, we still need to find a name for, due to lack of spare time, because I got several other projects, as I already said.

If you want to help us with ideas, please leave 'em here, we consider everything, and then crush your ideas :D , if I don't get my damn cookies.

Have you ever had 3 Kbyte/s ? I had for years. But 2009 we finally went DSL. (fast internet connection, if this word doesn't exist in the English language)

DSL is in English, but cable is generally faster :clint:
Also, t1 (I think the "1" can go up to at least 3) is the most reliable.

I have to update the thread here. I wanted you to know that the Machines Browsergame is pretty much on halt. I can't create or develop it, due to time restraints. I'm a student at University (or College - can't figure out the difference in English language) and I'm not having very much spare time. I'm struggling to get Oettinger Games updated and running - it is also on halt for the next period of time.
