Title: Fans of Titan Quest, look here!
Post by: M123 on January 07, 2012, 03:05:47 pm
Quote
GRIM DAWN (http://www.grimdawn.com/) is an action role-playing game intended for digital distribution on the PC. It is being developed by veterans of Iron Lore entertainment, the makers of Titan Quest. Grim Dawn is being built with Crate's own improved version of the Iron Lore engine and toolset; the same technology used to create Titan Quest. As a spiritual successor, Grim Dawn will attempt to better perfect the magical formula of exploration, character advancement, and loot collection pioneered by Diablo.

Players will be thrust into the dark, war-torn world of Cairn where a once proud empire has been brought to ruin and the human race driven to the edge of extinction. Cairn has become ground zero of an eternal war between two otherworldly powers, one seeking to use human bodies as a resource, the other intent upon destroying the human race before that can happen. This cataclysmic war has not only decimated human civilization but is warping the very fabric of reality and, in its wake, giving life to new horrors.

For humankind it is the dawn of a grim new age where iron has replaced gold as currency and the importance of salt as a weapon makes it far too valuable to waste on food. Small enclaves of human survivors exist scattered throughout the world, holed up in hidden refuges. These humans have quietly watched the warring invaders destroy one another and have become wise to the strengths and vulnerabilities of their otherworldly foes. A few survivors have begun to exhibit strange new abilities after surviving possession or exposure to the warp. These unnatural powers are feared by some but give many new hope of launching a resistance to fight the "outsiders" and reclaim what's left of their world.

Indie developed PC-exclusive steampunk/post-apocalyptic/fantasy action RPG in the style of Titan Quest?
*throws money at the screen*

The devs are partially funded by donations/pre-orders - if you choose one of the two larger donation options you get your name in the credits, access to the alpha (and/or) beta version(s) of the game and an as yet unannounced bonus in-game accessory.

What's Titan Quest?  :lolhammer:

It's a fantasy action-RPG (similar to Diablo 2 or Torchlight), based around ancient Greek, Egyptian and Asian mythology.

Steam Store page (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4540)

If you decide on buying it at some point, make sure you get the Gold Edition with the Immortal Throne expansion - it improves the base game considerably and adds quite a bit of new content (also, Steam seems to be selling the Gold Edition for the same price as the base game costs by itself for some reason).

*bump*

They've started up a Kickstarter page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn) with a funding goal of $280,000 (with $125,960 pledged so far).

Their Kickstarter is now well over the funding goal ($329,053 at the time of this post), and the Crate team have posted a set of stretch goals (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn/posts/224929) for various higher funding levels - the first of which (dual-wielding pistols :D ) needs another ~$20,000.

There's also apparently someone called "Serge" who has offered to back them $100,000 :-o

Is this kind of funding a donation, or do you get it back?

...this is a new game yet to be developed... maybe nobody plays the old game that this is based on, but that's why we make new games (openmachines)

It's basically a very early pre-order.. I'd probably think of it more as an investment (the return is the game and any bonuses you get for your funding level) than a donation. You pledge money sometime while the Kickstarter is running (note: you aren't actually charged any money at this point), then at the end of the project one of two things can occur:

1. The devs achieve the funding goal by the Kickstarter's end date, and the pledges are charged to each backer.

2. The devs fail to achieve the funding goal by the Kickstarter's end date, and no-one gets charged anything.

Omg...This is so emotional.  :holy:

I would like to thank my Hampsters for always believing in me, and my rabbit for giving me spiritual support when founding the Church of Derp. We are a city upon a hill for humanity. John Winthrop plagiarism but he wouldn't mind anyways....

"Thou shall have no other Derps Before me" (Derpedus 20).

In all seriousness, why do atheists brag about theorist without evidence? Like, Big Bang, evolution, relativity, round earth.   :argh:

There's a bit under 34 hours left on the Grim Dawn Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn).

They're at $432,096 at the time of this post - need to get it up to $480,000+ in order to unlock the stretch goals detailed here (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn/posts/224929).

Good question. Let me ask my good friends science and logic.

Who are you gonna ask? Your imaginary friend you pray bullshit to whenever you're feeling powerless?

Above is the true purpose of the thread, can we keep it at least relatively focused?
round earth.

Dannian was trolling, if you'll notice. However, regardless, science is not the opposite of religion, just because religious people can be stupid.

Who am I gonna call?!? GHOST BUSTERS

Let's try to at least keep this intellectual

With that being said, I have no recourse to certainty. Certainty is for the dogmatists. I'd be okay with religion if only one existed, but hundreds exist. How can any unbiased person justify their belief over another person's? Especially since they all have the same amount of proof for them: nothing. This is excluding the Abrahamic religions, of course. With Judaism, you can easily disprove Christianity and dare I say. . . . .

round earth.
Dannian was trolling, if you'll notice. However, regardless, science is not the opposite of religion, just because religious people can be stupid.

You did notice the round earth inclusion.  Yes, science is not religion's opposite. Rather, it is the death of religion. Some dumbass Christians I meet actually think Noah's flood happened.

That's almost $50,000 dollars, in under 32 hours. Obama spends that much in a day using tax dollars on vacations/golfing... Not going to happen.

Religion =/= Christianity.
Politics and religion =/= something you want to discuss over a text-based medium
