Game Engine
« on: January 20, 2008, 05:11:35 am »
This may be a little late in the game, but do you guys have someone familiar with the Steam Engine ( http://www.steampowered.com ) It is free and there is a HUGE base of developers, modelers, etc. Also they have a free client app for every game they carry that includes easy downloads. (i.e. large exposure) and it runs on win/lin. Community chat/voip app, website for clans, it really is a nice platform.

Games like their Half-life series, and many other previously developer titles.

..and yes, I did see the "no new ideas" sign but this could really make a worl of difference in the games outcome.

(side question, I spend some time charting out the research tree, BMU, research, dmg, armor, etc. for all buildings and units in an excel file, how do I list it? Just convert to pdf and upload it to a host site and hyperlink to it or what?)

I also have a copy of the XP machines.exe file sukou made. (whatever the programmers name is)
If you play a Vista disk upside down you will hear satanic voices...
But thats not the worst of it.
If you insert it the right side up, it installs vista...

I thought I'd bring this topic back to the forefront of people's minds.
Right now, I'm working on an OpenGL, OpenAL and essentially entirely open-source game engine.
The game is a space-based RTS (bodes well for reusage, yes?), where the speed of light is taken into account.
It'd be a simple task to remove that, and then switch over all the models. The problem lies in the way the game logic works.
Hopefully, since it should be modular enough, we can swap out the "Lightspeed" (my game) module for a new "Machines 2" module.

I'll keep you posted.
