Essential questions about this project.
« on: May 02, 2008, 03:40:21 pm »
Hi,

I hope, this is a right place to post my questions,
if not, sorry for wrong posting.

At first some facts about my hobby developer-"career":

I'm hobby game-developer/modder since DooM(1) ;)

Started with Doom-1 maps, later working on Q3-based games and now, mainly on low-poly game models.
Actually, I'm working on 2 bigger projects and some smaller things, not worth talking about.

The first one is a big mod for Jedi-Knight "Jedi Academy"
You can see some screenshots here: http://www.3d-get.de
("3d-get" is the name of our small hobby-developer team)
This projects is finished for about 90%.

The other bigger project is an "Descent" like game portet to open source of the ID-Tech3 engine.
This projects already started, there are not many screens at the moment.

Now about my questions to M2.

- which engine are you using (I could not find clear answer in the posts here)
- will this game be released as "open source" ? Or do you want to make money with it?
- which model-format do you prefer ?, Textures format and size ?
- Are there any informations about limits of the engine you are using (if have any choosed)

If you are still searching for a game engine, let me know, maybe i can give you some tips.
I'm familiar with many game-engines.

Finally, some screens of my latest work:

"Pyro GX" from the "Descent1/2"- game (high-poly version for renderings only, still w.i.p )

Low-poly version for ingame (an open-sorce port of descent 2, I do not want to name the project,
cause I leaved the team due to personally differences with the project leader.)
If you are interested on the details, you can ask me via PM.

greetings, MB

Wow. How many Polys are on the low poly one?
Have you checked out any of my mods?
-If not, it's probably because I haven't uploaded any.

In terms of the game engine we're using, Glest has been one of the more prominent choices.

I believe this would be an open source movement, but I'm not totally sure.

It would be important for me to know, because I'm only working for open-source projects.

Why?,..

... because I have some very bad experiences with other kind of projects.

EDIT:

I download this "Glest" - open-source game and I'm testing it out.
It looks good and they are providing some nice tools already for it.

I will try, if I can get my reaper model into it.
