GameRanger: a new place to play Machines online
« on: November 14, 2008, 06:36:08 am »
Hi all, just thought I'd let you know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing Machines: Wired for War (and its demo) online called GameRanger.

Basically, GameRanger makes it quick and easy to play your friends online.

It has full lobby support for over 500 different games and demos (including Machines, of course), without the hassles and headaches that usually happen with network connections (eg. routers & firewalls). You should find this a far simpler than Hamachi.

I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the Machines community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.

You can download it at www.GameRanger.com

Please give me as much detail as you can about what is not working.

A small number of people will get warnings about their routers having potential issues, but as long as you don't see anyone's name stuck in italics (slanted font) in the game room, you should be fine.

You don't have to any ports for Machines if you are playing on GameRanger, at worst, you might have to open GameRanger's port, but that's usually not necessary.

I've just released an update that may fix your DirectPlay Helper error. I can confirm that Machines works for me now.

Ha ! It worked ! We found the solution with Micronuub1 !! :D The only problem that remains is my graphics... :P

For others who have the same error:
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> 1st from above(settings) -> DPE -> Turn on the DPE function for all the applications(...) -> put the dplaysvr.exe from C:\Windows\System32 folder to excluded files and the Machines.exe too -> apply new settings -> restart your PC and that's all :D

If you encouter any more problems, you should open the UDP port: 16000 on your router too(the GameRanger port), because I had done that and only I could host the game !

Sorry to revive this, but if gameranger works properly without any need for hamachi, we may as well start using that. I'm Machinesrocks. Add me.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm hoping for people who would still like to play machines to pay attention to this program, and/or test it with me for machines. =p
