Machines browser-based game?
« on: October 02, 2009, 05:27:20 pm »
So you all know OGame, I take it? (http://www.Ogame.us)

How 'bout we create a similar one - Machines style?...

Yeah, I know, time-consuming - ain't a factor. If you wanna do something, you do it... At least I want to...

I'm suspecting OGame is PHP, linked to MySQL.

We don't at all have to make it as big as OGame, we'll see how it works out first...

I can speak HTML(duh, who can't), CSS, can get around pretty well with VB and Javascript.

Maybe it's a better idea if we use Silverlight? - more advanced version of Macromedia...

Any of you guys like to co-operate, you know where to find me.

And... Hellow again, by the way ;)

Hi and welcome to the remains of WiredForWar! I don't think there's much of a community here to create the game anymore. M2 has been attempted tons, but frankly, it's never gonna get finished. Don't hold your breath.

Anyways, is the game actual realtime 3d? It's hard to see from the info and website.
Have you checked out any of my mods?
-If not, it's probably because I haven't uploaded any.

It could be veeeery nice, I was addicted to ogame and think that Machines-browser version, would be nice. It would make this game well-known one and open the door to Machines 2 :)

Mmh, yes, true... But a browser based game is a small comparison to an actual RTS-game :)

Nope. 'Just' browser-based. Mainly uses images and text (and ranking board), but it's awesome (and, pretty addicting :P) nonetheless.

That's right... Haven't even thought about that :P

On a sidenote... I AM aware of the fact that work like this could take months, especially when someone is working on it all by himself... Hence the reason I'm asking it on a board 'full' of experienced 3D/Code programmers ;)

Mmhh... Would Jeballi participate if I ask? :D (already know the answer, but xD)

I never thought about that. If that would indeed construct us a Machines 2 team, I would most definitely sign up and help.

Damn...

Just come across a big matter: what program are we gonna use, exactly... I reckon it has to be user-friendly and not too-processor consuming...

And what about the server ? Maybe we could ask GameForge ?!

We could use the intro of 'Machines' for the trailer too :P

I think, that machines(units) could use electricity which players would gain from solar power. Better level of 'Solar power station' and higher temperature on planet equals more solar power which equals more energy which equals more machines player could build ^^

Daaaamn it all sounds great, man ! :D

Mmh, yes. Is that a free option? Otherwise, we could (maybe) get money from options OGame and several other browser-based games are currently using, like, buying an extended kind of resource with which you could do more things... Or is that illegal if it's being used outside of a company? :/

Also, I forgot to add: 'Ability to lay mines' with the spies.

What we've gotta work out now is the 'grow plan'.

What do I mean? I mean, how to gain the next level/kind of research or building.

For example, OGame only allows the player to research the Armour Technology if your Research Lab is Lvl 2.

The 'requirements', with other words, to reach the next level of building/research lvls.

This is going to work.

I don't know about you guys, but I'mma give myself a 110% on this one...

This IS going to work...

Baaaad news... Silverlight won't install... It won't give additional information, just 'Silverlight failed to install', and an error code with which I'm nothing when I google for it...

I'll just try to use a decent, more basic PHP-program, then... Hope Warez-bb'll give me the answer...

Damn you, Vista crap  :argh:

WAMP.

Why haven't I thought of that before?

I'll install it and set up a local server, which I'll test.

Sounds awesome, but my knowledge in this area kind of doesn't exist at the moment, but any lower level things that you'd need a hand with, just ask :)

Sure. Anyone is welcome to tag along ;)

Well, that's allright :) What I can really use at the moment is... someone who can draw well? To provide some artwork, perhaps?
