It's old...
It's decrepit...
It's Machines... in 32 friggin' megabytes.

The Machines Download System now works in Windows Vista/7. Check out that screenshot below. Yeah, that's Windows 7. And the MDS. Together.

If you're new, or have a really poor memory, I released the MDS back in the day to distribute Machines without having to worry about bandwidth issues by ingeniously compressing Machines, and providing a client for those too "slow" (read: retarded) to properly extract the files and get the game running. The aim was to reduce both bandwidth usage and support forum spam. And personal messages... addressed to me.

But, anyway...

3 issues I noticed upon running...

1.) Run this in administrator mode! Right click, "Run As Administrator".
2.) Mount the disc image yourself! The magic disk installer bundled with the MDS is meant for Windows XP. However, the MDS will leave the Disc 2 disc image in your installation directory, so you can mount it yourself using something like Daemon Tools, or a newer version of MagicDisc.
3.) Many users may encounter a missing dll file when attempting to run the game under XP compatibility mode, that file may be acquired here http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3drm.

this is pretty cool for those that dont have broadband....if only this wouldve been there when i had dial-up....wouldve gotten machines much sooner

Can you put just anything on fileplanet? If not can you ask them to put something up? Either way(hopefully one of those ways are true), you should get this or get someone else to put one of the machines torrents on fileplanet.

It's not a matter of simply downloading the compressed version -- it must be decompressed properly, which not only involves decompressing the 7zip file, but also converting images and audio files to the proper types, something not many users are familiar with doing. The client takes care of this automatically.

Sorry if i seem like a complete fool but, when ever i try to play a game after downloading the MDS it keeps asking me to insert Disk 2 when i try to play either in single player or skirmish mode. Any tips?

I've been sitting here too long, so I'm going to admit technical incompetency. I've downloaded the MDS. I run it as administrator, I enter my username and password, I get to the input installation path and I just stay there. What am I doing wrong? Am I just too new to use the MDS?

I'm sure you solved the problem by now, which I had too, but for future reference, press enter and you then hear the technician.
