I noticed that you already have the xp patch on your site! I have a similar patch from another website! This patch contains an additional file in comparison with your patch! And your patch contains a file which isn't in the patch I have.
vidcard.cap, cms16.dll, cms32_95.dll, cms32_nt.dll, machines.exe
machines.opt (my patch), mmxww32d.dll (your patch)
There is also a read me which I want to show you!
Ken's Machines Patch for Windows XP
NOT RELEASED BY ACCLAIM.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS IF YOU WANT MACHINES TO RUN ON WINDOWS XP.
I have managed to get Machines to run in Windows XP. I have not completely tested
it, so I'm not sure if it will work for other Windows XP configurations.
Here are the files in this "patch" (not released by Acclaim... just hacked together
First, do a fresh install of machines. If you are running Windows XP, that is probably
all you have since you can't play it yet.
The following DLL files are from the Machines-usa1.15 patch from Acclaim. Copy them
into the machines install directory (overwrite existing files).
The following EXE file is from a Win2K patch sent to me (via snail mail) on a CD-R
from one of the Technical Support staff at Acclaim. I assume it is not QA'd, and
does not come with any kind of warranty or support from Acclaim. Copy it over the
old machines.exe file.
If you do a clean install, and run machines and go into "Options" it will crash in
Windows XP. If you put this file into the machines directory it will stop crashing.
This file was in my old Win98 Machines install directory. I presume it was created
by my working Win98 machines install.
The following file is from an FAQ at Acclaim.net. It allows Machines players to use
higher video resolutions. 1280x1024 crashes machines on my system (even in Win98 it
did), but 1024x768 works well, and looks pretty good.
Finally, notes from the patches I have put together here mention to run machines in
single player mode before attempting a multi-player game. Single player mode will
write the version number (1.15) into the Windows registry.
THE FIRST TIME YOU RUN
In Windows XP, the first time you run and change the resolution options, exit, and
machines will perform an illegal operation of some kind. (Don't send the error report
if Windows XP wants to.) It should run the next time without crashing. This happens
to each XP user who runs.
Machines works for "limited" user accounts in Windows XP, but cannot save games. Use
"run as" to run as an administrator if you wish to save your games.
Multiplayer games do not work on the TCP/IP for Directplay setting. You must add the
IPX/SPX protocol to Windows XP (Network Connections, click on your LAN setting, add
a protocol. NOVELL IPX should be listed. Add it.) Do not run in Windows 95/98
compatability mode or the textures come out looking like Desert Storm camoflauge.
Any program that interupts your game (such as Messenger, or print services
complaining that you've lost your connection to the printer) will make Machines
in Windows XP unstable. Shutdown these services if at all possible before
playing multiplayer games. Save often in single player games.
You can find the file "machines.opt" in the attached rar file "newfile.rar" !
