Machines Modeling/Coloring
« on: March 18, 2011, 07:06:08 pm »
Well as you all know youve  been able to change robots colors but you cant change them easily cuz of the model of the robot ive been looking for new things and i got one as you see in my account picture its a grunt with modern body and modern color (yellowy and greeny) so if you would be able to change models NOT weapons NOT movement just models then it might work...
Thanks for your time.

That's a very good point. I'm trying to make some machines models and I'm having difficulty deciding how much they should look like the originals vs. looking like real modern/future robots. Very nice grunt/enforcer by the way. Is it just a 2D picture?

Check out http://www.blenderguru.com/, he makes some really nice tutorials. Also maybe look into Blender cookie tutorials here: http://www.blendercookie.com/category/all/tutorials/modeling/ like this one: http://www.blendercookie.com/2011/02/25/creating-a-bug-zapper-part-1/

If you wanna see some of mine: http://www.youtube.com/aminkamsc

Can we see his pictures? Maybe while your texturing friend is gone you can try learning Blender? It's not so bad if you learn from good tutorials.
Also, you shouldn't triple post. Edit your posts instead.

You should get blender 2.56 beta, it's mostly complete and a lot nicer. Making the machines isn't so hard either, since most of them are simple shapes.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to force you to make them :P

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're doing, but if you're making these models for a machines mod, I think it was agreed that's not possible, because nobody can access the models file. However, you could make these models regardless, for other purposes, like a sequel game.

i love ur friends work and i could definitely use his help at making textures. plz drag him here, ill show my whole stuff i managed to do so far. i can use gimp/ps, but i got problems with creating 'useless' details :D

@blender - i personally use 2.49b, it got everything i need, newer versions got too much stuff on the screen that usually annoys me. i like to work with hotkeys only. probably all u need to make half-decent model is W and spacebar for many, many options (like add cube/cylinder which is first thing i do), S to scale , R to rotate, G to move etc etc.

also for obvious reasons there is more tutorials for 2.49b/a than newest one.

You should message by your self so you can share your ideas and stuff but i think it can be possible to break to that models room cause nothings possible he had to make it somehow or you could try like this
Take machines models file... and put it away dont delete its stupid idea
and replace em with punch of machines Blender models

Um, see, the way machines.exe reads the models.bin file is not the same as any other program. Blender can't read models.bin, and machines reads only files formatted like models.bin (most probably) blender doesn't have any way of exporting models to be in the same .bin format as machines. Even if you can make a .bin from blender, I think it'll be a different kind of .bin. (pretty sure .bin just means binary)
