well not every commercial dev. There's valve; they use some common file formats. Thanks, though, that helps my explanation.

cmd is the shell for windows. How can that open anything? If you open it on notepad it'll appear to be a bunch of gibberish (if you can open it at all). If you open it on vlc player, it's a messed up sound recording that makes no sense and doesn't sound cool, so that's pointless too. It's like putting a wii game in your xbox: the disc/file will fit at first, but the end result is useless more often than not.

The company died long ago, and someone bought it to make acclaim games, and THEN playdom bought acclaim games. There is no acclaim, and I think acclaim never had the files. Charybdis did, and nobody knows where the source code is, or any programs used to open the files. It's not worth the effort to try to get the files, especially because it'll probably fail no matter how hard you look. Sorry. :megamonocle:

If you look at Xonotic.org or Cube 2: sauerbraten, those games are not professional or commercial. Those are gamers who know how to use tools to make games. We don't need professional game developers, but if we can get their help, the more the merrier. Also, every tool you need is free. You can just ask and I'll find one that's free.

Well I don't know anything about those programs, but I guess you can try :p. Honestly, I don't think they will work. A lot of different kinds of files use .bin, I think. They don't all open with the same programs. For example, Super Smash Bros. Brawl uses .bin files for replay files, but that doesn't mean I can open Models.bin from Machines using Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The two .bin files aren't interchangable.
But what do you have to lose? Go ahead, try whatever program that is if you can.

UHARC is only for unpacking and packing but maybe you can unpack the models.bin etc :O and then you can edit files??

I have no idea :p. It sounds like it makes sense, but I still doubt it's the right kind of file.

oh, so you mean the program uses cmd.exe to run? I think I get it, but I honestly don't know how to use cmd.exe. I don't know the commands to type and stuff.
