I can't remember what I did overall, but try putting a leviathan up to cover the entrance to the pass, and use first person for gorillas. Watch out for wasps that come over the mountains...

this is a good strategy, my only issue is the time it takes to build the leviathans before they start sending georges and wasps at the same time

once again thanks sansari!

I also had trouble with this but somehow I got to put together lots of units. I get surprised when the Gorillas explode a few seconds after I first-person a machine. Air sentinels made flying fireballs out of their wasps, and Knights made quick work of their Reapers. Reclaiming the city was easy cause I thought their base was huge and they had lots of troops, but when I captured the city it got a lot easier cause of more factories and mines. In time I was able to destroy their base, but it was a good thing their Ion cannon-ing was crud.

PUT RESOURCES AND DEFENSE AT THE HIGHEST PRIORITY (for the moment anyway)

Old post, I know, but this is the level that hammered me first.  I thought the higher levels would be worse, they were :-) but this is the first one that took me some real effort.

Your primary threats are Gorillas and Wasps, they can come from both east AND west, hopefully not at same time.

The first things to do are to get the technicians researching.  Triple plasma knights are the best, I make these and double plas reapers, so reseaarch the knights first.  You need to research the mek too, up to you if you want to go further with civ research.  Deconstruct the civ lab when done!

Get all 4 nearby mineral depsosits located, they are SMALL.  Recycle the little mules and build Ox's to transport bmu's.  Get two mines built and get another smelter going, face it south and place it DIRECTLY south of the present smelter.  This avoids traffic jams when you use the two new mines.  Ignore the tiny mineral deposits to the west for now, but send the locator out that way to find them.  Use them later on, ONLY if you can spare the bmus to build mines. Build the advanced civ factory to get the mek when ready. Oh, and the med combat factory you will NEED triple plasma knights, get to those ASAP.

Dispatch 2 or more reapers to the west and a P kniight If you got one to spare; there will be a lot of firefights to the east and dont be fooled, the turret reapers tear you apart at close range.  Stationing plama reapers there, high inititative/stand ground helps a lot.

Send a hefty patrol to the east, and put them up on that raised pathway.  Any ground units have to use this approach from the east.  Eventually theyll get a gorilla over there, watch out - but the AI wants to send them to the west, you have enough time to set up defenses if you hurry.

Build at LEAST one air sentinel, west of the original mine... put another east of the smelter(s) if and when you can.  If you fend off the first two attacks from the west,  its likely youll get an aerial attack from the east next.  Remember that air sentinels are murderous for all air units; the AI knows this and tries to direct ground units to attack and destroy them.

As for the idea of building a missile launcher on that eastern path, I've done it, it works well, BUT unless you have enough scavengers you will choke your BMU supply in building one. Also you cant until you research the Mek and he aint cheap either.  RECYCLE the Mek immediately and set the builders to work. Get rid of the small builder units whn yuo can, but first set them to work builidng the western defense line.  What happens over there makes or breaks the mid-game!

Static defenses, including the above, come in handy in this level as mentioned above, with the mandatory addition of ground sentinels/ defenders to the east.  3 should work fine along with plasma reapers.

Ok. So you fended off all the attacks from the west, secured the east path, now what?

There is an entrance to the enemy base to the west and north, but its heavily defended.  Their mining operation is right there and you can attck that, and fight your way in on the east path.  Be warned that they have a lot of small/med mil factories and those damm'd turret reapers are everywhere.  One thing I like to do at this point is send in a trip plas knight on the east path, triggering the "friendly units found in the city are now under our control" message. Use FP, and scoot into a Garrison in the city and hide (hoping you can survive).

Suddenly, you have a bunch more bmu, you've 'recaptured' the smelters in the city. But if you built the 2nd smelter you can keep the bmus after the enemy destroys the smelters you recaptured. You will reapeatedly get the "our base is under attck/a building has been destroyed" message and that means the ones youve retaken.  Be advised that the AI can still sneak up on you from the west at your base so have enough units on hand to deal with this.

At this point, if you can build enough big units to fight your way in, you can destroy everything and win.  BUT there is a heavy unit factory and an aerial unit factory that you need to get to and theres only one way in for ground units, and that's a raised path in the northeast. This is where I use a KEY strategy element that, when it works, completely hoses the enemy  ..................

Build an aerial factory.  If you can get this done early enough, you can get wasps to help attack and defend but what you want is an Eagle APC.  Load it with a transporter, a builder, and some heavy muscle, say a trip plas knight and some reapers.  Best, assign some wasps to escort it.  Saddle up, and head DUE EAST to the portion of the map that is empty.  Get the the east edge of the map and send them STRAIGHT NORTH hugging the east edge.  you will cross another raised path, and a body of water, and lo and behold you come upon an enemy mining operation and an aerial factory!!! COOL.

Now:
1. Deploy units
2. Capture small smelter. Use transporters and mine (you dont need to capture the mines yet)
3. Capture the aerial factory. The AI is sending units to kill you so act fast... your on an island so Gorillas and heavy usits cant get to you.  Knights CAN so start making Wasps to protect you.
4. Use the Eagle to transport your reapers over the water to the west, and VOILA, the POD is right there! Take out the turret there, the sattelite uplink, and the heavy mil factory.

If you're able to accomplish this without being caught short of combat units, you're done.  The AI wil keep sending units to the base as you go so the more you take out the less you worry.  Watch out for Ion Cannon attacks! If you gain a foothold CAPTURE THE POD and even the sat uplink, then rain death on the enemy with the ion cannon. This is really fun if you can swing it.

Other fun things: In the southwest there are more minerals.  If you can actually get to them and use them, you're a machines master! Try to capture the BIG smelter in the Northeast, use the bmus to annhilate the enemy.  Theres another huge smelter in the northwest of the city but it is very heavily defended... but I've been  able to capture it and finish the level with 10000 bmus hahaha.

This level is probably more challenging than Take the Pass, becuse in the latter, once you survive the initial gorilla/knight attacks its a war of attrition that the AI can't win, and the 'pass' becomes a trap for the enemy as you advance.  In Reclamation, you have to stay ahead of the game all the way until you eliminate the pod and aerial/heavy factories.  Even when you think you've succeeded, several well placed assualts can hammer you!

Good luck and have fun.

This is my playthrough of the mission. Mission done in 31mins.

Tech triple plasma knights, then plasma wasps and get the better builder. Don't rush into the middle but let the computer throw some stuff at you from the south entrance.

Wasps are important to cut off BMU income for the computer by destroying the buildings on the island. Pay some attention to the gorillas when moving into the middle and also split your units after some time has passed by, else you'll get hit by the Ion cannon.

When moving into the middle send the transporters to gather BMUs immediatelly and destroy the light military factories (They can become annoying).

the mission is not difficult when you know what you're supposed to do. just keep a good number of units alive and gang up on gorillas and abuse the first person mode to make enemy missle knights miss etc.

Aha, so you're using a strategy of destroying the mining operation then.  That's a good idea too, I hadn't thought of that and using my way, you need to save often and get the factories captured and defend  the invasion party at the same time. But you have to make sure you do not get totally hosed while researching and also you need the big factory for the mek.  What is your mining strategy?

Follow Up: I tried your way insofar as 'abusing' FP mode for knights... it works, I am left with 3 wasps and a bunch of plasma reapers/knights so I have either choice, capture or destroy the mines and smelter.  I forgot that in this level you can CAPTURE the pod and turn the ion cannon on the enemy bwahahahah I love that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
