Machines 2 Development - Work Submission
« on: March 07, 2007, 07:55:13 pm »
For the troubles of uploading everything you have we now have a simple solution. Sloik has a website "http://sserv.org/" with a 40Gigabyte storage capacity, so everything you have done can be stored here, when you have done anything, PM me and I'll add it to this post so you can quickly see where we stand Smiley

Only people who have registered and joined the development-team can use this service. To make sure there's full security you can also put locks on maps, so that only you and admins can see/open/edit it.

This site is owned by Sloik and he pays for it, so only use the space you need(You can use it for your own private storage though) If you behave badly or whatever, upload pornographic material or if you upload nothing(No developments) your account will be degraded of deleted, so be nice :)

The entire site is hand-coded by Sloik, so if there's a problem, he's the man to speak to.

Has any concrete work been done? or are we still arguing over the details?

I guess lots of the stuff we have done on unit design is pretty solid but there is still room to change it as we go along. The same is true for any 3D Models and some of the storyline (which we need to get back to, I think).

Is there some place I am able to see this work?
I'm willing to help but have no clue where to begin / what to do. Team leaders have any suggestions?

ps. Is there an agreed upon format for submitting 3D models?

Blender is a great way to do it, in my opinion.

I completely agree - I use Blender.
But for uploading models: .blend files? .3ds? .etc?

Just a bit of an update on the part of SServ...

It's been locked right now, on the account of it being under development and highly unstable at this point in time. All the files that were previously uploaded are still there, but you can't access the user interface right now because there are quite a few bugs which could compromise security.

Once I finish the new interface, I'll unlock it and allow free access again. If you desperately need space, try the attachment system or contact me and have me upload it. The attachment system is preferred.

Thanks!

Anyway, if blender can convert to .3ds, then I suppose we should just upload in .blend and if someone wants it in another format he/she can convert it. Or make a list of commonly used formats and just export to all of them and zip them.

Personally I would go for .X - trivial for engines to load.

But following up ProjectX's question - is there actually any conrete work been done, design docs, simple use cases? Would love to read if somebody has gone that far.

Ask me anything about Machines and I'll try to answer! I don't have the source code anymore. No idea what happened to it...

He speaks! There has been lots of documentation in terms of ideas... and some models have been worked on, as you can see.

But what about the engine? Doing all of this modelling and talking isn't going to help much unless we have an engine to play with.

And have we decided that we are using the Spring Engine yet?  :squidly:

I think we have... we just need someone who knows/trying to learn how to use it.

Well, as long as we have finally decided on the engine then it is OK. Obviously with school/university/work etc. we won't be working as fast as we could be, but still, it is a start.  8-)

Yeah I definitely think that Blender is a good way to do it. I'm new to Blender, but I have seen quite a lot of capability's upon using it.

Oh yeah, and I have a few models just to help along too. they're not much, and they're untextured, but they look a lot like the actual models for the game so hey... every little bit counts right? the only problem is that I dont know how to attach files or whatever.

Thanx.
Have you checked out any of my mods?
-If not, it's probably because I haven't uploaded any.
