Planetary Annihilation
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:17:31 am »
Hello there,

Well, just to make it clear. I am myself a big fan of Machines: Wired for War and still playin it, thanks to your great work to make it compatible for newer systems, thanks again. And i guess its a new Forum or my Account was deleted, couse i am pretty sure i had still a account here 3 years ago...

But i stumpled yesterday about that Kickstarter Campaign. Except that it is a RTS in the Spirit of Tottal Anihilation, the first thing i was thinkin when i looked the test video was, oh my god, that could have been a Machines 2, seriously, i know you like RTS like i do myself, and i just wanted to drop a note here, for everybody who may be not seen this allready and that could be intressted in this game.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/659943965/planetary-annihilation-a-next-generation-rts

Keep up the good work!

Couldn't every RTS game have been Machines 2 if people would spent time on a similiar design? :D

PA doesn't look like an RTS I would like to play. Seems rather attack move heavy and just massing units.

Also welcome to WfW

It's like the original cause behind springrts, except:
It's probably closed source
it's pretty much about the money (they won't even make it until enough money is thrown at them)
it's even larger scale, which also means even more potential micromanaging :argh:
it has cartoon graphics
it has professional developers

Somehow I think the game will be terribly hard to balance in Multiplayer. With all the asteroids and building on other planets etc. I got the feeling the games will be really long or can at least be dragged out for a long time.

Also I doubt there will be much micromanagement if one can produce that many units as seen in the trailer. Players will just attack move, cause everyting dies in 1 shot from the mass of units.

By the way, supreme commander and most spring games are made in the spirit of total annihilation. This game looks like a bad rip off of Homeworld 2 with moving asteroids or something. It also doesn't look like a machines game to me.

As much as I agree with you and as much as I'm against the capitalistic system of these days, I gotta say that it's either money or time which is the factor. Take us for example; we're not exactly a 'professional' team working on a project our boss has given us, so we gotta use our free time... Just posing an example =)

They're getting paid as it is, and they're doing something that they want to do. What bothers me is that they don't want to work on this game that they supposedly love, until they're paid at least 90% of a million dollars.
Another thing that bothers me is that people are getting crowd-funded, but they're still keeping the game closed-source in the end, and they're still going to sell the game with a stupid EULA (as far as I know).

The original Supreme Commander cost $11,000,000 to make. The amount Uber Entertainment is after for development of Planetary Annihilation seems quite small if you consider how ambitious their plans for the game are.

Great, so they got all the money they need to make the game! That means it doesn't have to cost anything, right? Right?
